Food Grade Floor Coatings

What exactly is a food grade floor coating? A food grade floor must be resistant to whatever chemicals are used in the factory. There are a lot of oils, fats and acidic ingredients in many food & beverage items which break down a standard floor very easily.

In addition to this, a floor must be properly sealed at joints and the coving must be very smooth in order to be classified as 'food-grade'. This is due to the risk of bacteria breeding in cracks and crevices in the floor. The ideal place for bacteria to breed is a small crack on the floor, particularly near drains. It is a known fact that as soon as bacteria finds a place to breed, it spreads uncontrollably.

Other factors of a food grade floor include:

  • Fast-drying when applied (to reduce downtime)
  • Odourless
  • Easy-to-clean
  • Heat Resistant

Being flooring specialists in the food & beverage industry, our technical team has the ability to develop products which solve flooring issues unique to this industry.
